Google Adsense is a powerful contextual ad program that allows you to monetize the traffic that visits your blog. Using Adsense is as easy as signing up for a free account and pasting some code on your site.
Many big names in blogging have been using Adsense to literally bring in thousands of dollars worth of income per month. For proof of this just check out the photo on Shoemoney’s site of his Adsense check for $132,994.97.
This is why it is very important that you take the necessary steps to ensure that you don’t violate Google’s T.O.S. So here are the seven reasons that your Adsense account was closed.
- You didn’t read through Google’s Terms of Service.
Alright so this seems like a pretty easy thing to miss. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to go through the T.O.S. It definitely doesn’t make for good book reading, but taking the time to glance through every couple of months will ensure that you are aware of any changes that have been made.
- Clicking on your own Adsense ads.
This is a definite no, no, that will pretty much guarantee the closing of your account. Don’t do it, nuff said.
- Inviting others to click on your ads.
Now you might be used to telling people to support your sponsors, but doing so will get Google to shut you down.
- Having more than one Adsense account per business, or person.
This could be overlooked if you don’t read the T.O.S., but you don’t need more than one account for multiple sites.
- Discussing specific stats about your Adsense ads.
Google prohibits you from disclosing certain figures about your account. These include the ctr, impressions. However, you can show others the dollar amount.
- Placing Adsense ads on a site that was created specifically to show ads.
Google does not want you to show ads on sites specifically for showing ads. Google is responsible for delivering search results that are the most relevant to the keyword. Sites created for the purpose of showing primarily ads is usually not relevant content.
- Placing images next to ads that are related.
Remember that you can’t promote users to click on ads. This is kind of fuzzy but just make sure you try to keep your images away from the ad blocks.
In most cases if you have any doubt about what is allowed or not be sure to check the T.O.S. or contact Google for council. For some of the infractions Google will send an e-mail warning. In the event that you click on your own ads, Google will close your account without warning. If you play clean then you shouldn’t have to worry about anything. Until next time.
